First time Bellport/Brookhaven homebuyers: highly recommend Dean Kresse If you’ve seen enough HGTV, you just might think you don’t even need a realtor to buy a home. Figure a great credit score and super low interest rates, should be a cake walk. Think again. Even the most straight-forward home purchases have their speed bumps. Thankfully we had the amazing expertise and local perspective of Dean Kresse at Exit Home Key Realty. Property line dispute. Missing mortgage satisfaction letter. Non-current C/O. Contract extension. 12 day closing delay due to a Covid scare... These are not things you want to navigate with a novice. To back up, even before 2020 we had been looking for anything East of Manhattan to Montauk, but zeroed in on Bellport and Brookhaven. Once covid hit, we knew we needed more room to zoom outside of the city. The day the Zillow alert came through for this house, Dean was our first text & call. He cautioned against a site-unseen offer, but we knew this was the house, so we put in the offer that day. They waited until after the open house and there were several competing offers. Throughout the 105 day process, Dean was excellent. He was instrumental from getting acceptance on the offer through to a smooth closing day. He was able to see the property before, during, and after the open house, and was diligent in communicating with the seller’s agent. Super responsive, he patiently explained all the steps (and speed bumps listed above). He had helpful contacts along the way — recommendations on options from inspections to insurance to the all-important mortgage lender. We shopped around for all the services, but often his recommendations were the best. We went with the Frank Virga team at Embrace Home Loans who were amazing and offered a 90-day rate lock which was clutch (we closed on the last of the 90 days). The closing itself on March 15 was seamless and smooth. Now we have the keys and happy to start a new chapter in this wonderful community. Many many thanks to Dean and would certainly not recommend buying any home — especially your first — without his guidance.

TL’DR: Dean is patient, informative, friendly, tenacious and hands on, and he is THE reason I was able to find the perfect home for my family and I in one of the most difficult home purchasing markets our generation has seen. It’s taken way too long for me to post this review. Partially because I was swept up into the excitement of moving into my new home, which Dean was invaluable in helping me secure, but also because I’m still processing the end of the long, emotional and sometimes complicated home purchasing journey we just completed. I decided to start looking for a home to purchase for myself and my disabled mother in early 2023, and knew that I was entering a market that was complex and competitive, a search made even more complex by my accessibility needs for mom. What I didn’t know was that the first step of finding a realtor would be the first hurdle to overcome. It took me months of being ghosted by realtors, being told my under $1 million budget wasn’t high enough, or not liking the presented strategy (which was basically for me to find my own house and call them and pay their fee when it was time to put in an offer), before a chance encounter introduced my brother to Dean, and after one meeting I decided to work with him. From the day we began working together, Dean was patient, informative, friendly, tenacious and hands on, immediately sending me listings to begin to gauge my likes and dislikes. I won’t say I’m difficult, but I am very particular, and as a first time homebuyer I also started with unrealistic expectations. This kicked off a year and a half of home searching, with Dean dedicating most of his weekends to taking us on house viewings, never getting impatient with the process or my newbie questions. I did put in several offers, but lost them all to higher or all cash bids. The market was just a nightmare, with one house I loved so much I offered $100k over asking on it, going to another bidder who when to $150k over. And this was amongst 20 bidders. Needless to say, it was an emotional and sometimes painful process. I went into it thinking I was a well qualified purchaser who would find a home as quickly and easily as they do on House Hunters, but I quickly found that despite my healthy salary, my downpayment as a first time home buyer was losing to people who had much more cash from selling their previous homes. At one point I even got discouraged and gave up, pausing the search for a few months, but when I called Dean ready to jump back into the fray at the beginning of this year, he didn’t hesitate to continue helping me, and I ended up finding an amazing home that met all of my personal needs as well as all of my family’s needs, including ada accessibility for my mother. Dean was instrumental in this deal closing, going above and beyond to find me a lender that would pre-write my loan so that I was competitive against cash offers, as well as my entire top notch closing team, from inspector to lawyer — and yes I know most realtors have these connections that they push for a kickback, but I researched everyone Dean recommended and they were all best in class in their area. It is still surreal that I am officially a home owner after this long journey, and I have Dean to thank for carrying me through. I’d 100% recommend working with him. ????
